Midmark-Versus Recognizes Customers for Innovative Use of Real-Time Locating System (RTLS) Technology

(Traverse City, Mich. and Dayton, Ohio, May 11, 2018) — Midmark-Versus announced the recipients of its 2018 RTLS Innovator Award and its peer-selected Impact Award during the Versus User Experience (VUE) meeting, May 9-11 in Baltimore, Md.

The RTLS Innovator Award recognizes a Midmark-Versus customer who has either recently implemented RTLS in an innovative way, or who has made significant contributions to the use of the technology over the years. Brenda Clements, Manager of Nursing Services at Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) Cancer Care, was honored for her vision and commitment to using RTLS to increase efficiencies and improve the patient experience. In 2008, EMMC was the first oncology center to implement RTLS for patient flow.

“Over the past 10 years, Brenda has helped to design and create new concepts and workflows to enhance cancer patient care delivery,” said HT Snowday, Vice President of Workflow Technologies for Midmark-Versus. “As an early adopter of RTLS for patient flow, she’s been an advocate for the technology, providing educational insight, writing articles, and presenting her work at healthcare conferences around the country. She has always upheld the mission of serving the patient without losing site of taking care of staff and caregivers in the process.”

With Midmark-Versus RTLS in place, EMMC reduces patient wait times, saves nurses 4 miles per day in extra steps, reduces interruptions for pharmacists while mixing medications, and delivers an exceptional patient experience, with satisfaction scores consistently greater than 96%.

Clements’ work with RTLS automated workflows and alerts contributed to the workflows later implemented by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Karmanos Cancer Institute, Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute, and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center, among others.

New this year, the Impact Award was given to the VUE presenter whose education session had the most impact on his or her peers at the conference. Voted by his fellow VUE attendees, the inaugural fan-favorite recipient was Diego Martinez, a data scientist with The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Martinez’s research focuses on building tools that make healthcare delivery more effective and efficient through advanced analysis and modeling techniques. He shared how his team used Midmark-Versus RTLS data and artificial intelligence to learn how infusion pumps are being shared among hospital units, and how a smart distribution system can find under-utilized equipment for redistribution.

Snowday closed this year’s event by saying, “We appreciate all of our client speakers for sharing their best practices and insights. I’m honored to congratulate our two award winners for this well-deserved recognition.”

The Versus User Experience is a customer-focused educational and networking user group meeting, providing a dedicated environment for clients to learn best practices from their peers. Each year, client-delivered presentations include case studies, new solution deployments and breakout sessions that enable healthcare professionals to discuss new ways to enhance the patient experience.

Real-time patient flow and asset distribution information require highly accurate location data. In a 2016 report from the healthcare research firm KLAS, Versus received the highest rating among RTLS vendors that provide both hardware and software. Versus also received the highest rating for location accuracy, as well as for many other categories.1 For more on the KLAS report, visit versustech.com/KLAS.

Midmark Corporation acquired Versus Technology, Inc. in May, 2016, creating a unique offering of clinical workflow solutions that encompass clinical workflow services, RTLS technology, medical equipment, diagnostic devices and design assistance for improved efficiency within health systems.
